The
Idaho Comprehensive Cancer Strategic Plan, 2006-2010, is the result of many hours of collaborative efforts by members of the Comprehensive Cancer Alliance for Idaho (CCAI).
The
Idaho Childhood Cancer Strategic Plan 2008-2010, was developed in collaboration by members of the CCAI Childhood Cancer Task Group.
The
Comprehensive Cancer Alliance for Idaho (CCAI) was formed to lay the foundation of a comprehensive cancer control plan (CCC) for Idaho. The State of Idaho was recently funded by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as part of their
National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program. These funds will be used for the development and implementation of a statewide cancer control plan for Idaho.
CCC is defined by the CDC as an "integrated and coordinated approach to reduce the incidence, morbidity, and mortality of cancer through prevention, early detection, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliation." The goal is to integrate activities with resources in order to prevent and control cancer.
It is estimated that almost one in two Idahoans will develop cancer during their lifetime. Cancer, both nationally and in Idaho, is ranked as the second leading cause of death behind heart disease. In Idaho, this accounts for approximately 23% of all deaths. During the five-year period 1998-2002, 27,344 cases of invasive cancer were diagnosed among residents of Idaho. For more data on cancer in Idaho, please visit the
Cancer Data Registry of Idaho (CDRI).
The Comprehensive Cancer Alliance for Idaho partnership is a group of organizations and individuals working to bring resources and expertise together to address the continuum of cancer care and to address priorities within Idaho's cancer control plan.
